The San Antonio Scorpions continue the search for their first win of the season along with their first goal. San Antonio will host the Atlanta Silverbacks in the second ever game in Toyota Field this Saturday at 7:30pm. Atlanta currently sits third in the NASL standings and will present a challenge for the Scorpions defense with their ability to score goals.

The Scorpions are coming off of a 1-0 loss to FC Edmonton last Sunday where they created dangerous attacks for most of the game, but could not find their first goal of the season. Despite ranking fourth in the league in shots on target, San Antonio is finding it difficult to find the back of the net. With almost 50 percent of their shots hitting in the frame, it seems as if goals should start flowing as soon as that first one goes in. Forward Esteban Bayona recorded three shots on target at Edmonton to bring his total to four on the season. If Bayona and the other forwards continue to get into dangerous positions, look for the first goal or goals of the season for San Antonio on Saturday.

Atlanta lost a tough match to Minnesota United FC at the weekend after United came from behind to beat the Silverbacks 3-2. Atlanta continues to provide goals at both ends during their matches this season. The Silverbacks lead the NASL with eight goals scored, but are tied with Fort Lauderdale with the most goals allowed as well (6).

Silverbacks’ midfielder, Milton Blanco, has recorded either a goal or an assist in all three of Atlanta’s matches thus far this season. Blanco scored an impressive free-kick goal at the weekend against Minnesota that was nominated for the NASL’s play of the week. Blanco should be a thorn in the Scorpions’ side for the majority of the match on Saturday.

When: Saturday, May 4th at 7:30 pm central time

Where: Toyota Field, San Antonio, Texas

Key Player: Patrick Hannigan – It’s no secret that Atlanta knows how to score goals. The Silverbacks should have plenty of chances during the match, so Scorpions keeper Hannigan needs to be on top form to limit the damage as much as possible. A clean sheet may be too much to ask, but Hannigan’s presence needs to be felt.

Wild Card: Blake Wagner – Wagner made his first start of the season against Edmonton at the weekend, and will look to cement his place in the starting eleven. Wagner who started at left back for the Scorpions, attacked often and well, registering two shots in the game. If he can provide some attacking flare from the back, it will add another dimension to San Antonio’s attack.

Up Next: The Scorpions travel east to take on the Carolina RailHawks who currently sit at the top of the NASL standings. The matchup takes place on Saturday, May 11th at 6:00 pm central time.
